This is the sarcophagus of Pakal, one of the rulers of the Mayan empire. The common interpretation of this is Pakal's travel to the Mayan underworld Xibalba.
But there have been some theories that this may represent an actual space vehicle and a 'pilot' preparing for takeoff.
